This year, ‘Prosecutor’ by Jacek Filipiak and Maciej Pieprzyca, ‘Secret Wars’ by Patryk Vega and ‘Girls from Ukraine’ by Wojciech Adamczyk are competing for the 2016 Eagle Award. The nominations for these prestigious awards were announced by last year’s winners and nominees in the Primate’s Palace in Warsaw on 4th February. The Polish Film Awards are presented in 19 categories, in this year’s competition there were 53 feature movies submitted and in case of documentaries the jury had a choice among 63 documentary productions that premièred in 2015.
Among others, TVP productions and co-productions have received a number of multiple nominations for various awards. The movie with the most nominations (7 nominations including: best film, best actor, best supporting actress, best supporting actor and others) was a feature by Janusz Majewski ‘Exccentrics- the sunny side of the street’. Other TVP co-productions nominated in the best feature category are: ‘11 minutes’ by Jerzy Skolimowski, ‘Karbala’ by Krzysztof Łukaszewicz, ‘Photographer’ by Waldemar Krzystek, ‘The Lure’ by Agnieszka Smoczyńska and ‘Demon’ by Maciej Wrona.
In the best documentary category the TVP nominees are ‘Actress’ by Kinga Dębska, a documentary about a famous Polish writer Maria Konwicka, ‘Karski and the Masters of the Universe’ by Sławomir Grunberg and ‘Piano’ by Vita Maria Drygas. The 2016 Eagles awarding ceremony is scheduled for 7th March 2016.
