Poland’s Digital Affairs Minister, Krzysztof Gawkowski, said on Friday that Warsaw had received word from Brussels that it would be permitted to grant the aid.

Intel's production and testing facility in southeastern Poland will be one of the country’s biggest ever foreign investment deals and is expected to create around 2,000 jobs.

“The European Commission has informed Poland that there is a green light to grant public aid to Intel,” the minister told a press conference. “It is very good news. It’s an important step that we’ve been waiting for the last few months.”

The ministry said that in the coming days, Gawkowski would submit a formal notification to the EC concerning the more than 7.4 billion złoty (€1.72 billion) the government plans to grant Intel between 2024 and 2026.

At the same time, work will start on securing the Cabinet’s approval for the deal.

An inter-ministerial team set up to deal with the investment has been working for several months, and a sitting was convened for Friday, Deputy Digital Affairs Minister Dariusz Standerski said.

He added that a contract with the American technology giant was expected to be signed by the end of the year.
