Andrzej Domański referred to the latest data released by the Central Statistical Office (GUS), highlighting that March’s inflation index stood at 1.9%, slightly below analysts' expectations.
“We are currently witnessing the lowest inflation rate in five years, and what’s perhaps even more significant to me, is the consecutive decrease in food prices for the second month,” Domanski remarked.
The Central Statistical Office published a preliminary estimate of March’s inflation level on Friday, indicating a 1.9% increase in the Consumer Price Index (CPI) compared to the previous year, and a 0.2% rise from the previous month.
Domański emphasized the government’s commitment to maintaining a stable budget policy regarding revenue, which led to the decision to reinstate the 5% VAT tax on food starting in April.
“As the Ministry of Finance, as the government, we must conduct a stable, responsible policy on the budget revenue, thus the decision on VAT,” he explained.
“However, I am absolutely sure that this decision will have a very, very moderate impact on the shop prices,” he added.
