Due to the active operation of Ukrainian solar and wind power plants and reduced consumption, the country’s power system has a surplus of electricity, which is being purchased by Poland, Ukrenergo said in its Telegram social media post on Tuesday.

“In order to maintain a balance between production and consumption and the operational security of the power system, in response to Ukrenergo’s request, the Polish power grid operator PSE provides assistance in emergency situations by purchasing surplus Ukrainian electricity in the total amount of 1,661 MWh from 11:00 am to 4:00 pm,” the company stated.

Poland has provided this kind of emergency support to Ukrenergo on several occasions before by buying its surplus generation.

According to Ukrenergo, in addition to cash flow to its utilities, Poland’s assistance helps Ukraine avoid additional costs associated with bringing power plants offline for a short period of time.
