At the beginning of October, a controversial
alcoholic product packaged to resemble children's snacks led to public outcry, prompting the Polish government to halt its production.
Amid the crackdown, Allegro announced its decision to put the pilot alcohol program on hold.
The company said: “We are taking into account the government's work to amend the Act on Upbringing in Sobriety and are closely following the progress of the legislation.”
"On this basis, we will decide on the next steps regarding the sale and purchase of alcohol on Allegro.”
According to Poland’s state news agency PAP, Allegro is Poland’s largest e-commerce company generating almost 1% of the country’s GDP.
