Monika Czyż-Grzesik, who lives in Somerset, U.K., was crowned New Entrant of the Year at the prestigious 12th annual Engineering Construction Industry Training and Development Awards in London.
Organized by the Engineering Construction Industry Training Board (ECITB), the event celebrates rising stars shaping the industry’s future.
The mother of 10-year-old twins, who works as a trade laborer for Cavendish Nuclear on building the U.K.’s Hinkley Point C nuclear power station said: “Winning this award is incredibly motivating.
“It shows that all the hard work was worth it. I was juggling work and caring for my children, but when they turned nine, I decided it was time to try something new and get back on a career path.”
After moving from Poland to the U.K., Czyż-Grzesik worked in a school canteen whilst juggling evening studies to complete the Hinkley Support Operative Bronze Programme, which prepares workers for the nuclear power station site in Somerset.
Commended for her resilience and ambition, Czyż-Grzesik beat two other talented finalists to claim the ECITB’s top spot.
