The six-minute cinematic teaser for The Witcher IV by Polish developer CD Projekt Red, treated fans to a glimpse of the dark, fantastical world that has captivated audiences since its inception.

The latest entry to The Witcher saga based on the novels by Polish author Andrzej Sapkowski, marks the beginning of a new storyline in which a female protagonist, Ciri, is foregrounded.

She is the adopted daughter of Gerald, the main character of the game’s long-time protagonist, Geralt of Rivia, and the trailer shows her wielding her magical powers to protect a terrified village from a marauding beast.

"In this game, we want to explore what it means to truly become a witcher by following Ciri on her Path. This trailer is a taste of both that, and just how dark and grounded the world of The Witcher can be," said Sebastian Kalemba, game director at CD Projekt Red.

The highly anticipated sequel marks a fresh storyline for the franchise, which has sold over 75 million copies worldwide since its debut in 2007.
Its predecessor, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt (2015), remains a pinnacle in gaming history, widely regarded as one of the greatest RPGs ever created.

Writing for GamesRadar, journalist John West said: “The Witcher IV is instantly one of the most anticipated upcoming video games.”

But, with no release date being announced and the game still in production, he added: “There’s basically zero chance of this title landing in 2025, and 2026 also seems unlikely.”

According to Reuters this was partly down to the "troubled release" of CD Projekt Red's high-profile game Cyberpunk 2077 in 2020.
