This year’s event, being held for the 81st time, starts on August 28 and will see the premieres of the sequel to Todd Phillips’ ‘Joker,’ and ‘Queer,’ an adaptation by Luka Guadagnino of the William Burroughs novel of the same name.

Holland and the other jurors, who will include James Gray, Andrew Haigh, Mendonça Filho, Abderrahmane Sissako, Giuseppe Tornatore, Julia von Heinz, and Zhang Ziyi, will choose the winner of this year’s Golden Lion for best film.

Other Golden Lions will be awarded for best actor or actress, best script, and the festival’s special prize, in addition to the Marcello Mastroianni award for most promising young actor or actress. The jury’s chair will be celebrated French actress Isabelle Huppert.

Last year’s Golden Lion for best film went to Yorgos Lanthimos’ Poor Things.

The jurors for the Horizons award for new film trends and the Luigi De Laurentiis award for best debut film will be announced at a later date.
