Released in 2023, “Pianoforte” captures the emotional highs and lows of five young contestants as they battle to reach the final 12 from an initial field of 87 gifted musicians.

Widely regarded as one of the most prestigious classical music events, the Chopin contest has been held every five years in Warsaw since 1955 and has helped launch the careers of numerous pianists, including recent winners Rafał Blechacz and Bruce Liu.

While the competition offers unparalleled opportunities for musicians, it also comes with intense pressure, with one contestant in the film describing it as the "Olympics of piano."

The Emmy Awards, presented by the International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (IATAS), recognize outstanding productions made outside the United States. This year’s awards featured 56 nominations from 21 countries across 14 categories. British actor Timothy Spall was named best actor for his role in The Sixth Commandment, while Thai actress Aokbab-Chutimon Chuengcharoensukying won best actress for her performance in Hunger. Other winners included Argentina’s Daily Dose of Sunshine as best comedy, the British documentary Otto Baxter: Not a F**ing Horror Story, and France’s Les Gouttes de Dieu, which was awarded best drama series. Spain’s La Promesa took the Telenovela prize, and Germany’s Liebes Kind was recognized in the TV movie or miniseries category. The New York gala marked the 52nd edition of the International Emmy Awards.
