The incident happened in an isolated area near Hybe, a town near the High Tatra mountains, as the victim was picking mushrooms with another person, police said.
"Unfortunately (the) man succumbed to injuries despite the efforts of rescuers," emergency services said on Facebook.
The last death as a result of a bear attack in Slovakia occurred in 2021, local media reported.
The death happens amid a surge of bear-related incidents. In March, a 31-year-old Belarusian tourist died in Slovakia after plunging off a cliff after trying to escape from abear.
That same month, a bear was recorded rampaging through the northern Slovakian town of Liptovsky Mikulas, attacking cars and wounding five passers-by. The aggressive bear was later tracked down and shot.
In southern Poland, July’s Skyrunning Championships was disrupted when a participant was chased down the Kasprowy Wierch peak.
People have been reminded to stay calm if encountering bears in the wild, and not to run away but instead walk purposefully in the opposite direction.
