This unique creature, known for its ancient lineage and distinctive armored shell, is already captivating visitors at the Night Animals Pavilion.

The hairy armadillo, a species that has roamed the earth since ancient times, shows remarkable adaptations that help it survive in its native South America.

Unlike its more agile cousins, the three-banded armadillos, this new resident—named Misia—cannot curl up into a tight ball for protection.

However, her defensive strategy is fascinating: she quickly digs into the ground, pressing her belly tightly to the earth, making it difficult for predators to reach her.

Equipped with powerful legs and thick claws, Misia excels at burrowing, allowing her to swiftly create a safe refuge.

Her specially adapted nose gives her the ability to breathe even when her snout is completely buried in sand or dirt, showcasing her resilience and adaptability in the wild.
