The dolphin was spotted near a yacht by MatSails sailors, a company specializing in sailing courses and events, who shared the video on Facebook with the caption, "Is this still the Baltic?"

Sailors observed the dolphin for several minutes on their route from Hel to Gdynia, northern Poland.
"The dolphin looks healthy and doesn't appear to be sick," said Dr. Tomasz Kijewski, a biologist from the Institute of Oceanology at the Polish Academy of Sciences in Sopot.

Although dolphins were spotted in the Baltic Sea two years ago, they are still rare visitors in this region. Kijewski said that while dolphins are curious and intelligent, the Baltic Sea's low salinity is not ideal for them.

"Differences in salinity affect the dolphin's water management and kidney function," Kijewski explained, hoping the dolphin finds its way back to saltier waters.

“If it isn't sick, especially if its ears are healthy, there's a good chance it will navigate back to its natural habitat.”
