The bisons’ journey began when they escaped from a stable near the village of Kłomnice, southern Poland. Two adult buffalo, a male, and a female, managed to survive the winter on the run and this year the female gave birth to a calf.

The buffalo then extended their great escape and continued their journey through southern Poland, being spotted in various locations over the following months.

A breakthrough came on July 2, when specialists from the Kurozwęki farm successfully trapped the female buffalo and her juvenile.

However, the bull continued to roam freely, with sightings and footage of its journey frequently appearing on social media.

The bison’s odyssey finally ended near Czyżowo Szlacheckie, where it was tranquilized and taken to join the rest of its family in Kurozwęki.
American bison are native to North America, where they historically roamed the prairies and sparse forests. Hunting in the late 19th and early 20th centuries drastically reduced their numbers, but conservation efforts have since increased their population to tens of thousands in the wild.

In Europe, however, bison are found only in managed environments, requiring special permits for their upkeep.
