The initiative, called CopenPay, will last four weeks and include activities such as litter picking. It will encourage tourists to use public transport or to move around on foot, according to the Danish city’s official tourism organization, Wonderful Copenhagen.

Tourists will be offered rewards ranging from food and drinks to kayak rentals for participating in activities that encourage them to explore aspects of the city they might not usually see and for behaving in a more environmentally-friendly way.

A list of participating venues, from museums and restaurants to bars and canoe rentals, can be found on the Wonderful Copenhagen website, detailing what tasks visitors need to do to earn their reward.

Though the activities themselves will have a limited impact on the environment, according to Wonderful Copenhagen, the organizers hope the scheme will encourage people to develop new habits in their homes.

Some eateries will offer free coffee, soft drinks, or wine to guests arriving at their venues using public transport, bicycles, or on foot.

According to the organizers, an outdoor venue just outside the center of Copenhagen is offering participants a free meal at its food stalls if they collect rubbish from the surrounding area and present the bag to staff.
