The blooming is known locally as a sign that summer is drawing to a close. Tourists have been flocking to catch sight of the plants, against the backdrop of the stunning Mt. Kościelec.

Tatra National Park guide Tomasz Zając said: “This year, the peak of fireweed blooming comes two weeks earlier than usual. In previous years, the pink flowers could be admired until mid-August.

“We call this plant a symbol of the end of summer, and now it’s the end of July, so we have a slight acceleration.”

He added: "The fireweed blooms beautifully on mountain grasslands, where sheep used to graze.

“It is a nitrogen-loving plant, and such places are rich in this element due to their use by sheep. It also grows abundantly on decaying windfalls.”
