The six-week-old cub made his debut appearance on Facebook, where zoo staff posted photos of him next to a toy reindeer and another of him asleep on his mother’s paw.

Born on June 2 to proud parents, mom Suri from Germany and Jamir from the U.K., the delightful ball of fur, who has yet to be given a name, has gone from weighing just 685g to 2,560g.

Posting on its Facebook page, the zoo said: “We have great news for you! Welcome another baby to the Warsaw Zoo family - here is His Fluffiness, a charming male snow leopard who turned 6 weeks old last Sunday!

“Suri is a very caring mother, she watches over her baby at every step.”

Saying that the cub was “growing like a weed” and “has already shown his first sharp teeth,” the zoo added that the youngster “is still distrustful and explores all corners of his bedroom.

“Before he goes out with his mother for his first walk outside, he still needs to grow up (in the wild, snow leopards start following their mother at the age of about 3 months).

“We will let you know in due course when the baby becomes more familiar with the surroundings and feels more confident in the outdoor enclosure, so you can admire him during walks with Suri.

“Every birth at the Warsaw Zoo makes us very happy, and the little snow leopard is even more happy because it is a species at risk of extinction.”

Listed as a ‘vulnerable species’ according to the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), there are around just 4,000 snow leopards inhabiting their natural environments in the Himalayas, the Tibetan Plateau, and the mountains of Central Asia.

Threats come from poaching, habitat loss, declines in natural prey species, and climate change.

Approximately 400 snow leopards live in zoos worldwide.

Following the news of Warsaw Zoo’s new snow leopard, delighted fans have flooded its Facebook post with comments.

One said: “Congratulations! Good luck to the little one, and the carers will enjoy taking care of His Fluffiness.”

Another posted: “Oh what a wonder... He is fantastic. I wish him good health.”

Yet another noted: “Mom came to the zoo in May and gave birth the following June - it was a speed date.”
