On June 3, Dariusz Musiał along with his friend traveled to Gosławskie Lake located in central Poland, on what was supposed to be another ordinary spin fishing expedition.
They set off on their boat around 3.30 a.m. and made slow progress until 7.30 a.m. when they noticed a group of silver carp splashing out of the water.
On spotting the shoal Musiał changed his lure to a 10-cm rubber roach. Shortly after, a supersized fish took the bait.
After a grueling 20-minute battle, the men were surprised to find out that the monster was not a catfish but a giant silver carp.
After carefully measuring and weighing the catch, it was confirmed to be a new Polish record.
“I couldn’t believe that I caught a fish for a new Polish record! During the measuring and weighing, we handled it extremely carefully, and in the end, we returned it alive and well to the water,” Musiał wrote on a Polish angler’s news website Wiadomości Wędkarskie.
The previous record, set in 2021, belonged to Grzegorz Marcinkiewicz, who caught a silver carp weighing 61.10 kg in the Oder River.
According to the Polish Angler’s Association (PZW), the sport is practiced by about 1.5 million people in Poland, including 600,000 that belong to the association.
