Graca pointed out that the prominence of older candidates in American politics has often obstructed the rise of new emerging leaders.

He said: “American politics is dominated by elderly candidates,” adding that following Joe Biden’s withdrawal from the presidential race, “Donald Trump is now the oldest presidential candidate ever in U.S. history.”

He mentioned that this aging political landscape has long been a feature of U.S. politics, troubling many Americans. This can be best understood, he said, by looking at the immense support that Vice President Kamala Harris has garnered since Biden’s withdrawal on Sunday, which clearly reflects how many Americans would like to see a new, dynamic candidate.

“Kamala Harris got $50 million over merely a dozen hours after Joe Biden announced that he would not be seeking re-election,” he said, adding that this reflected the immediate and robust support she received from the donors.

He also said the Democratic Party appears to be uniting behind Harris, with endorsements from factions such as the Congressional Progressive Caucus (CPC).

“The situation is evolving very quickly... Kamala Harris has enough number of delegates secured,” he said, emphasizing that the incumbent vice president is close to cementing her position as the Democratic nominee.

Influence of Polish minority

Turning to the influence of the Polish diaspora, Graca provided a more measured view. While acknowledging the pride within the Polish community, he suggested their impact on national politics is limited.

He said: “Polish people have every right to be proud of their Polish minority in the U.S. But I think that the Polish people have to be very cautious not to overestimate the influence of the Polish minority in the U.S.”

Graca added that there is now more focus on the influence of the Arab Muslim minority and its potential impact on the election outcome.
