Trump, who defeated Vice President Kamala Harris in the November 5 presidential election, is set to take office on January 20.
“At President Biden’s invitation, President Biden and President-elect Trump will meet in the Oval Office on Wednesday,” Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said in a statement.
It has been a longstanding tradition in the U.S. for outgoing presidents to invite their successors to the White House for a meeting before the inauguration.
The gesture aims to ensure a peaceful transfer of power, with many viewing it as a cornerstone of American democracy.
However, Trump, a Republican, broke with tradition when he refused to host Biden, his Democratic successor, for a meeting after losing his re-election bid in 2020.
Biden, who had originally planned to seek re-election in 2024, withdrew from the race after a poor debate performance against Trump, paving the way for Harris to replace him as the Democratic nominee.
Duda-Trump meeting expected soon
Meanwhile, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk said on Saturday that President Andrzej Duda will soon travel to the U.S. to meet with President-elect Trump.
Tusk said: “President Andrzej Duda has informed me that his visit to the U.S. is possible soon, so I will keep my fingers crossed.”
Tusk added that Duda had told him he would present a unified Polish position in any potential meeting with Trump.
Duda and Tusk belong to opposing political camps, with the former being backed by the right-wing opposition Law and Justice party.
