The country’s Ministry of Defence reported expenditures totaling 166.8 billion crowns ($6.92 billion) in 2024.
However, the final figure as a percentage of GDP remains subject to NATO's review and updated macroeconomic data expected later in 2025.
Czech Defence Minister Jana Černochová posted on X: “For the first time in 20 years, the Czech Republic will fulfill its allied commitment to spend at least 2% of GDP on defense.
“We are giving defense what it should have had long ago.”
Černochová also highlighted new legislation enacted in 2023 that guarantees defense spending at a minimum of 2% of GDP, describing it as a "crucial safeguard" for national security and allied obligations.
The Czech Republic's achievement comes as NATO sees broader compliance among its members, with 24 of 32 countries now meeting the 2% threshold.
