The ministry stated that
the strategy of the attacks and their objectives aligned with the activity profile of the APT28 group, which is linked to Russian military intelligence services.
The Czech diplomatic department, drawing on intelligence from clandestine services, condemned the actions of APT28, which has long been engaged in cyber espionage campaigns across European countries. The Ministry urged the Russian Federation to cease such activities.
The statement from Prague’s Ministry followed an earlier announcement by the German government on Friday regarding a series of cyber attacks attributed to Russian intelligence.
According to the ministry, the concerned authorities have received technical instructions and offers of cooperation to enhance security measures. Czech diplomacy noted that APT28 has been targeting the Czech Republic for some time.
“
Czechia jointly with Germany, the European Union, NATO and international partners strongly condemns activities of the Russian state-controlled actor APT28, who has been conducting a long-term cyber espionage campaign in European countries,” the ministry of foreign affairs
declared.
Czech authorities pledged to continue bolstering the resilience of government institutions and the private sector against cyber attacks.
The specifics of the targeted institutions were not disclosed by Czech diplomacy.
On Thursday evening, the North Atlantic Council, NATO’s highest decision-making body, expressed deep concern over the increasing number of Russian cyber attacks. The statement highlighted threats to the security of Alliance partners and specific countries, including Poland, Czech Republic, and Germany.
