Starting his 5-day visit, on Sunday, at the Polish embassy in Beijing, President Andrzej Duda presented awards to individuals who have contributed to the development of cooperation between Poland and China.
During the ceremony, Duda recalled that he went to China on one of his first foreign visits after becoming president.
“I will never forget that at that time we signed an agreement on Poland’s accession to the Belt and Road concept, and I established friendly relations with Chairman Xi Jinping,” he said.
“I am glad that over all these years we have been building Polish-Chinese relations calmly and consistently.”
Duda pointed out that this might be a “farewell” mission to China as his second, and last, term as president is coming to an end in August 2025.
He expressed hope that these “important” Polish-Chinese relations “go as well as possible in the economic sphere, interpersonal sphere, bilateral cooperation, but also multilateral cooperation.”
The head of state on Saturday began an official visit to China. On Monday, he will hold talks with PRC Chairman Xi Jinping, as well as with Prime Minister Li Qiang and Chairman of the Standing Committee of the Chinese Parliament Zhao Leji. During the visit, the president will also deliver speeches at economic forums in Dalian and Shanghai.
The main agenda and possible outcomes of President Duda’s visit were also discussed at TVP World’s Press Corner hosted by Ashim Kumar, with guests: reporter Jo Harper, Bielsat TV journalist Jakub Biernat, and TVP World’s Benjamin Lee.
