The pact is designed to regulate migration issues across the union, including support for countries under migratory pressure.

The document, consisting of 10 legislative texts, was previously endorsed by the European Parliament on April 9.

This final vote by finance and economy ministers marks the end of the legislative process, with most provisions set to take effect in 2026.

One key feature of the pact is a mandatory solidarity mechanism, which involves support for countries facing migratory pressures, including taking in migrants in quotas determined by the European Commission or providing financial aid of €20,000 per migrant.

Poland’s Finance Minister Andrzej Domański expressed his opposition before the vote, criticizing the previous government’s handling of the negotiations and stating that the final solutions were unsatisfactory for the current administration.

Opposition voices discontent

Meanwhile, leading opposition figures in Poland have taken to social media, slamming the EU regulation and accusing the current government of misleading the public.

“It is the government’s duty to challenge the migration pact to the CJEU, referring to the conclusions of the 2018 European summit, where I negotiated the principle of Poland’s voluntary participation in the relocation mechanism,” Mateusz Morawiecki, the country’s former prime minister, wrote on X.
