After the election commission said the populist ruling Georgian Dream party won with nearly 54% of the vote, President Salome Zurabishvili said the country was in “shock” and that “nobody was expecting this dimension of fraud.”
She added that it was possible that Russia had a part to play in election meddling, saying: “The degree of detail and such sophistication and adequation between the different places and the instruments of fraud used – that's typically an FSB signature.”
Zurabishvili went on to say that she would like to see Georgia enter the EU for the country’s safety. She said she doesn’t believe Georgia has the means to face a potential Russian military invasion, which is why the only way to peace, for her, is “to join the European Union as fast as possible.”
“One thing that everybody should know is that there are no two Georgias. There is not one Georgia that is pro-Russian, that would like to go in that direction, and one that wants to go towards Europe. There is one Georgia that wants Europe,” she said.
