Iran fired a salvo of around 200 ballistic missiles at Israel on October 1 in retaliation for the deaths of the leaders of Hezbollah and Hamas, and a senior commander of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard. Most of those missiles were intercepted and Israel vowed revenge.

On Monday, Poland’s foreign minister, Radosław Sikorski, said on social media site X: “If anyone has not yet heeded the consular warnings, I make this appeal: please leave Iran immediately.” Monday marks one year since the Palestinian militant organization Hamas attacked Israel. On October 7, 2023, an estimated 1,200 people were killed, and over 240 were kidnapped and taken to the Gaza Strip. Israel responded first with a massive air attack, and then the Israeli military entered the Gaza Strip.

The main area of military clashes has now moved to Lebanon, from where Iran-backed Hezbollah had been firing missiles into Israeli territory.

The conflict escalated on September 27, when an Israeli airstrike in the Lebanese capital, Beirut, killed Hezbollah chief Hassan Nasrallah.
