The opposition coalition is demanding new elections in response to apparent Russian interference and fraud in the October 26 election.

The Georgian Dream party, which favors closer ties to Russia and faces accusations of democratic backsliding, won another term in office in the vote, but the result has been dogged by allegations of fraud, and the country’s pro-EU president, Salome Zourabichvili, has refused to accept it.

Members of the Coalition for Change brought along mattresses and blankets to Chavchavadze Avenue, near Tbilisi State University (TSU), on Sunday, restricting traffic on the street. “We are stopping at TSU; we will spend the night today; we will be here 24 hours; we will inform you about all further plans and this will continue until there are new and fair elections,” said Elene Khoshtaria, the leader of the Coalition for Change.
