She added that reports in Germany’s Zeit newspaper that the conversation was planned to take place ahead of the G20 summit in Brazil were “not true.”

During a TVP World panel at the Warsaw Security Forum on Wednesday, Lührmann said that while Scholz had mentioned the possibility of a call “if the time arises,” it would only be in the context of ongoing diplomatic efforts related to Ukraine’s peace process.

Lührmann said that the German government is focused on supporting Ukraine and contributing to broader peace talks.

According to Zeit, the phone call would follow previous dialogues in 2022 by other Western leaders, including U.S. President Joe Biden and French President Emmanuel Macron.
