On Thursday, heads of state, heads of government, and high-level representatives from participating countries, as well as leaders of international organizations, were in attendance, making it the highest-level summit ever to focus specifically on nuclear energy development.

The event was jointly organized by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and the Belgian government.

Aiming to strengthen political consensus, the summit pressed for the promotion of nuclear energy’s role in responding to global climate change and achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

On the same day, participating countries issued a joint declaration, committing to fully unleash the potential of nuclear energy. The declaration asserts that nuclear energy is an important part of the global strategy to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

It also emphasizes the importance of timely deployment of advanced reactors around the world. This includes encouraging strengthening regulatory cooperation, accelerating technological innovation, increasing financing support, and promoting the early deployment of advanced reactor technologies globally.
