The announcement came after a meeting between the two men on Thursday in Warsaw, where they discussed a broad range of global issues and elevated bilateral relations to the level of a strategic partnership.

Tusk said that the enhanced partnership was not merely symbolic. “It’s not just words. Behind this lies our determination and readiness to cooperate on many different fronts.”

Tusk added that Poland and India shared common views on global challenges and were committed to working closely together.

A key topic of the discussion was India’s potential role in mediating the conflict in Ukraine. “I am very pleased that the Prime Minister [Modi] confirmed his readiness for personal involvement in a peaceful, just, and swift resolution of the war,” said Tusk.

“We are both convinced that India can play a very serious and positive role here,” he added.

The meeting was held as Poland and India mark 70 years of bilateral relations. It has been 45 years since the last visit of an Indian Prime Minister to Warsaw.

Tusk highlighted shared values such as respect for sovereignty and the rule of law. He praised India’s commitment to democratic governance, which, he said, is not something common in that part of the world.

Economic cooperation was another focal point, with Modi advocating for expanded ties in areas like renewable energy, food processing, and defense.

“Poland is a global leader in food processing. We would like to see Polish companies participate in the grand food fairs currently being established in India,” said Modi.

He also identified opportunities in urban infrastructure and clean energy.

Modi reaffirmed India’s interest in deepening defense ties, recalling past collaboration in military training and equipment. “Close cooperation in the defense industries is a symbol of our mutual trust. We will continue to strengthen this cooperation,” he said.
