Modi arrived in Warsaw on Wednesday in what he described as a visit marking 70 years of relations with a country he described as “a key economic partner in Central Europe.”

“I look forward to meeting my friend Prime Minister Donald Tusk and President Andrzej Duda to further advance our partnership,” Modi said in a statement on the Indian Ministry of External Affairs website. “I will also engage with the members of the vibrant Indian community in Poland.”

Modi, the first Indian prime minister to visit Poland in 45 years, will meet senior political figures on Thursday, India’s ambassador, Nagma Mohamed Mallik, said.

He is scheduled to meet Tusk in the morning with talks between the two delegations to be held at the Prime Minister’s Office. He will go on to meet Duda at Warsaw’s Belweder Palace in the afternoon.

Also on Thursday, India’s head of government is scheduled to meet representatives of Polish companies operating in India. He will also meet the captains of Warsaw’s men’s and women’s kabaddi teams – an ancient Indian team sport.

Modi is also scheduled on Thursday to meet renowned Polish economist Leszek Balcerowicz, who is a former deputy prime minister and finance minister.
