Modi’s visit to Poland, marking 70 years since the two nations launched diplomatic relations, would be the first such trip by an Indian head of government to the country in 45 years.

Reports from diplomatic sources indicate that Modi is scheduled to meet with Polish President Andrzej Duda and Prime Minister Donald Tusk.

Modi is expected to visit Warsaw on Wednesday. Afterwards, he is expected to travel to Ukraine, where he is set to hold discussions with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. This meeting may coincide with celebrations of Ukraine’s Independence Day on August 24.

Modi’s trip to Ukraine will be his first since the outbreak of war in 2022 and will come shortly after the Indian PM’s visit to Moscow.

India continues to trade with Russia despite Western sanctions placed on Moscow, while calling for a peaceful resolution of the conflict in Ukraine through dialogue and diplomacy.

New Delhi has refrained from directly blaming Russia for what Moscow calls a special military operation.

The U.S. has raised concerns over India's relationship with Russia, especially at a time when Washington has been seeking to strengthen ties with New Delhi as a potential counterweight to an ascendant China.

New Delhi is seeking to deepen its relationship with the West while keeping ties intact with old friend Russia.
