“There was no discussion on that, there is no need for discussion,” said the Montenegrin Prime Minister Milojko Spajić, following the government’s session. He did not even specify when this issue will be on the Government’s agenda.

The President of the Democratic People’s Party (DNP) Milan Knežević also called on Spajić to submit to the Parliament a proposal for a resolution on the genocide in Jasenovac by next Friday. Spajić said that it would be more natural for such a proposal to come from the Parliament.

“It is more a political resolution than a technical one. I think it is more typical for it to happen in the Parliament, for the parliamentary majority to sit down and make a proposal for a resolution. As the Government, we do not run away from any work, so we will come to an agreement,” Spajić said.

Serbs are not genocidal: Spajić

In a social media post on platform X, Spajić made it clear that Serbs should not be labeled as genocidal, emphasizing the absence of such a notion and asserting that no nation can be branded as genocidal.

Spajić emphasized that proposed amendments should not be interpreted as condemnation of the Serbian people, Serbia, or Republika Srpska. He stressed that there is a significant Serb population living in Montenegro, highlighting the importance of recognizing this demographic reality. Srebrenica killings

The Srebrenica massacre, alternatively referred to as the Srebrenica genocide, was the genocidal killing of over 8,000 Bosniak Muslim men and boys in and near the town of Srebrenica in Bosnia and Herzegovina. The killings took place in July 1995, amid the Bosnian War, and were carried out by units of the Bosnian Serb Army of Republika Srpska.

The massacre has been officially recognized as genocide through rulings from both the International Criminal Tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia (ICTY) and the International Court of Justice (ICJ). The U.N. war crimes tribunal in The Hague also determined that the killings met the criteria for genocide.
