The President disclosed that he decided to “send a letter to all NATO leaders and the NATO Secretary General, where the
proposal to increase defense spending to 3% GDP is expressly formulated along with the justification for why this increase is justified.”
“I assume… it will indeed spark a serious discussion on this topic, and we will be able to make such decisions because they are justified today,” Duda explained.
“Russia, with its aggressive policy, its rebuilding of imperialism, and its aggression against Ukraine,
has clearly shown that it is returning to the days of the Cold War, to the days when the Soviet Union pursued aggressive policies towards other countries… that Russia is returning to those ambitions and should receive the same response as it did then,” he said.
The President also expressed his belief that “spending the appropriate amount of money on defense
will be sufficient to maintain peace and prevent anyone from daring to attack any of the alliance’s member states.”
He also expressed his appreciation for Poland being a part of NATO.
“Our presence in the Alliance is particularly important for us today, at a time when Russian imperialism has unfortunately resurged, when we all know what is happening in Ukraine,” he said, pointing to the ongoing war in the east.
