Negotiating with Russia is 'absolutely nonsense,' Garry Kasparov tells TVP World Despite the military assistance offered to Kyiv by the West, Russia appears to have the upper hand in the Ukrainian battlefield. Kasparov said that the very idea of negotiating with Russia is ludicrous given the fact that Moscow’s real intention is to destroy Ukrainian statehood.

“The idea of negotiating is absolutely nonsense because Putin [Russian President-TVP World] does not want to negotiate; he wants to destroy Ukraine,” Kasparov said, adding that the Russian state has repeatedly expressed its plans to liquidate the Ukrainian nation.

He said that while the West has offered military support to Ukraine, this support is inadequate if Kyiv is to win the war.

“The West has given enough to Ukraine to survive but not enough to win,” he said.

He said that while the U.S. Congress passed the much-awaited $61 billion aid package, it came quite late, giving Russia a significant advantage on the battlefield. However, he said that despite holding an advantage, the progress of the Russian troops is far from what Putin had promised.

Kasparov stressed that in order to reverse the situation on the battlefield, the West must supply weapons to Ukraine and also “formulate the goal of the war.”

He said that what has been holding off the Western leaders from supplying ammunition to Ukraine is not so much the lack of resources, but the lack of political will.

“The problem is not the lack of resources or military power, the problem is the lack of political will… and unwillingness to say simple words: Ukraine must win,” he said.

He also cautioned that Putin’s ultimate goal is not simply to conquer Ukraine but to “change the world order,” adding that the Russian President reminisces about the medieval world of empires, where there were no international conventions or laws, and where “might was right.”
