The mission, conducted under a NATO framework, will begin in early December and is scheduled to continue until Easter.
“Ukraine remains in critical need of military support, with Poland as the most critical logistics hub ... This way Norway contributes to ensuring that aid to Ukraine reaches its destination,” Defense Minister Bjørn Arild Gram said in a statement.
A hundred Norwegian soldiers will support ongoing efforts to monitor the security of military and civilian equipment routed through Rzeszów airport in southeastern Poland, a vital node for supplies and medical evacuations with Ukraine.
“Poland is making a tremendous effort to ensure that both civilian and military supplies reach Ukraine. The airport is also central to the medical evacuation efforts that Norway is responsible for,” Gram said.
Poland’s defense minister, Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz, thanked Norway for its support. On the X platform, he said: “Four Norwegian F-35s, along with their air defense systems, will protect our airspace and NATO’s eastern flank. A big thank you to our allies from Norway!”
