The initiative dubbed the Ukraine Communications Group (UCG) will mainly be directed at the countries of the Global South, a phrase which refers broadly to the regions of Latin America, Asia, Africa, and Oceania.
Speaking at the official launch on Monday, Tomasz Chłoń, the Polish foreign minister's commissioner for combatting international disinformation, said that in cooperation with NATO members and EU countries the UCG will employ specialists to offer true reports about Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine and to disclose manipulations of the Kremlin.
A statement by Poland’s foreign ministry said that the joint initiative confirmed Poland’s and America’s “unwavering commitment to counteracting international disinformation, among others by strengthening social resistance to the effects of this phenomenon, as well as increasing costs for disinformers through sanctions and other joint actions.”
It added that “the launching of the initiative is a strong signal of our common determination to further support Ukraine in its fight against the aggressor.”
