Paweł Bejda wrote on the X platform that The Armaments Agency had bought the AIM-120C AMRAAMs (Advanced Medium-Range Air-to-Air Missiles), made by Raytheon, in order to ensure the security of Polish airspace.
Several hundred units of the weapon have already been purchased for the Polish Air Force for its existing fleet of F-16s combat aircraft and the F-35s it has on order. They can also be used on the FA-50 light aircraft Poland has ordered from South Korea.
During a visit to Washington in mid-March by Poland’s president and prime minister, the U.S. State Department granted its consent for Warsaw to buy up to 745 AMRAAMs for up to $1.7 billion, and 821 AGM-158B JASSMs (Joint Air-to-Surface Standoff Missiles) with a range of almost 1,000 km for a maximum price of $1.77 billion, as well as 232 tactical short-range AIM-9X Sidewinder Block II missiles for no more than $219 million.
