Israel intensified its air strikes against Hezbollah targets in southern Lebanon on Monday, escalating its conflict with the Iranian-backed militia and political party.

At least 558 people have died in the Israeli attacks, and 1,836 others were wounded, reported Lebanon’s Ministry of Health.

In response, on Tuesday, Hezbollah fired dozens of rockets into northern Israel, targeting military facilities.

Posting on social media platform X, the Polish Foreign Ministry wrote: “Poland is deeply concerned about the escalation of tensions in the border region of Israel and Lebanon.”

“We call on all parties to exercise restraint and to stop the violence, which will have consequences for the entire region,” it added.

Polish troops on high alert

On Monday, Polish Minister of Defence Wladysław Kosiniak-Kamysz said that the Polish contingent stationed in Lebanon as part of a U.N. peace-keeping mission had been put on high alert.

Speaking to private broadcaster Polsat News, Kosiniak-Kamysz said: “This is a very dangerous mission, involving multiple countries,” adding that while every decision has to be coordinated with allies, the safety of the soldiers and the mission always comes first.

Kosiniak-Kamysz also did not rule out the possibility of evacuating Polish troops in extreme emergency, saying that “we are considering every scenario.”
