The number of Ukrainians seeking refuge in Poland decreased in March according to the latest figures released by Eurostat. As things stand, it’s understood that around 4.2 million people have fled the country and been granted temporary protection status in various EU countries since the outbreak of the war.

Of this number, 957,200 have sought refuge in Poland, accounting for 22.6% of the EU total. Germany, meanwhile, has absorbed 1.2 million refugees (30.4%) and the Czech Republic around 385,000 (9.1%).

According to Eurostat, the number of people receiving temporary protection status in Poland declined by 1,680 in March.

Back in September, the European Council extended the time limit for temporary protection from March 4, 2024, to March 4, 2025. Poland also extended the legal residency period for Ukrainians with a Polish ID number (PESEL) until September 30, 2025.
