Andrzej Szejna, a Polish deputy foreign minister, told private broadcaster Radio Zet on Monday that the EU treaties entitle member states to take others to the bloc’s supreme court if they fail to meet their statutory commitments.
“We are determined to take Hungary to the European Court of Justice,” he told the station, adding that despite his asylum status, a Hungarian court could still order his extradition if it was truly politically independent.
Marcin Romanowski is wanted by Polish prosecutors on 11 charges related to his time as a deputy justice minister under the previous government. He stands accused of misusing public money earmarked for victims of crime.
