After reports that Iran transferred short-range ballistic missiles to Russia emerged last week, the Polish foreign ministry commented on the matter on Friday evening.
"We join the condemnation of the recent transfer of Iranian-made ballistic missiles to Russia. Iran’s involvement in supporting Russia is unacceptable," the ministry wrote on the X platform.
On Tuesday, Antony Blinken and David Lammy, the foreign ministers of the U.S. and the U.K., respectively, announced that these were Fath 360 ballistic missiles with a range of up to 120 km.
They reported that Russia would likely use them against Ukrainians in the coming weeks. Kyiv announced that if this happens, it may break off diplomatic relations with Tehran.
Tehran has denied reports that it was supplying weapons to Russia. The Kremlin has not denied the information.
The U.S. has responded to the new reports on Iran’s weapons sales to Russia by imposing new sanctions on the Islamic republic. This includes Iranian airline Iran Air, which was allegedly used by Tehran to smuggle sensitive materials from Europe.
It is possible that the European Union will also impose sanctions. Earlier this week, European Commission spokesperson Peter Stano explained that the Community was waiting for confirmation of reports regarding the sale of the missiles.
