Some Polish provinces presented their initial damage assessments on Saturday, estimating losses at more than €1 billion. However, these do not include many flood-hit towns, including Głuchołazy or Lewin Brzeski.
During a government meeting on Tuesday, Tusk said that new flood relief legislation, aimed at speeding up recovery, would support home-loan borrowers affected by flooding and provide additional benefits to victims.
“Including European funds, we expect that we will be able to mobilize up to 23 billion złotys (€5.4 billion),” he said.
Tusk added that the government would offer both immediate assistance and a long-term recovery plan called “Reconstruction Plus.”
For more than a week, Poland has been grappling with a ravaging flood that devastated dozens of localities across the southwestern region of the country, claiming seven lives, with homes and urban infrastructure destroyed or damaged and thousands of people evacuated from danger zones.
