Labour won 412 seats in Thursday’s elections to the House of Commons, giving it a comfortable majority and its second-best result ever.

Following the victory, Starmer became the 58th prime minister in the country's history.

“Congratulations on your truly great victory,” Tusk wrote on social media.

“I deeply believe that together we will do a lot of good for the U.K., for Poland, for Europe and for the free world,” he added. At noon London time, Starmer was granted an audience with King Charles III, who appointed him, as leader of the victorious party, to form the government. The Labour Party had remained in opposition since losing the May 2010 general election.

However, Labour's victory was tempered by a bitter reality—voter turnout was just 60%, the lowest since 2001.
