On Monday, a day before their visit to Washington to mark the 25th anniversary of Poland’s accession to NATO, which is also expected to be dominated by the issue of security, Tusk posted on social media. “I differ politically with President Duda on almost everything, but we must and will work together when it comes to national security, and not just during our visit to the United States.”

The talks in the U.S. will cover a range of issues, including the current status of NATO, its possible enlargement through the accession of Ukraine, as well as Polish-American cooperation and Polish arms purchases in the United States.

The White House confirmed that the leaders of the United States and Poland would meet before the July NATO summit in Washington.

On Monday morning, President Duda convened a meeting of the National Security Council so that, as he stated, Polish politicians “before the visit to the USA... could present the unity of the Polish political scene on issues concerning national security.”

The 25th anniversary of Poland’s accession to NATO will take place on Tuesday. On March 12, 1999, Foreign Minister Bronisław Geremek handed U.S. Secretary of State Madeleine Albright the act of Poland’s accession to the North Atlantic Treaty, which formally completed Poland’s accession to the Alliance.

Since then, Poland has been covered by security guarantees under, among other things, Article 5 of the Treaty and is also obliged, among other things, to continuously maintain and develop its own defense capabilities and assist other allies.
