During the talks with the U.S. President, several topics will be discussed including the current situation of NATO, the future enlargement of the Alliance, support for Ukraine, as well as Polish-American cooperation and Polish arms purchases in the U.S.

White House spokeswoman Karine Jean-Pierre emphasized that the leaders would reaffirm their unwavering support for defending Ukraine against Russian aggression.

The meeting will start at. 3:30 p.m. local time (8:30 p.m. in Poland) at the White House. After the meeting, at 4:35 p.m. (9:35 p.m. in Poland), Duda is scheduled to address the press.

The U.S. visit will be preceded by a meeting of the National Security Council convened by President Duda on Monday, which includes: the speakers of the Sejm and Senate, the Prime Minister, the heads of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of National Defense and the Ministry of Interior and Administration, among other dignitaries.

The reason for holding the meeting is to make sure that the Polish leadership has a unified take on the matter of national security. President Duda and PM Tusk have both stated that the issue of security must become a national priority that unites everyone in Poland without exception.

President to meet the Congress

Before meeting the U.S. President Duda is also scheduled to meet the congressional leadership of Republicans and Democrats. He will also hold talks with the Majority Leader Charles Schumer, Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, and the Speaker of the House of Representatives Michael Johnson.

On Wednesday, the Polish president will visit the state of Georgia. The most important facet of this trip will be his visit to the Vogtle nuclear power plant, where last year the first new block in over 30 years was put into operation. The Westinghouse AP1000 reactor used at Vogtle is the same type of technology that will be used in the power plant to be built in Poland.

American-Polish relations grounded in shared interests

The U.S. ambassador to Poland, Mark Brzezinski, discussed the upcoming meeting at the White House, stating to “Fakt” that Joe Biden, alongside the Polish president and prime minister, will commemorate the 25th anniversary of NATO expansion. This expansion aimed to include new countries from the post-communist region, enhancing collective security.

Brzezinski highlighted Biden’s pivotal role in orchestrating NATO’s enlargement, specifically bringing Poland into the alliance. He emphasized that Tuesday’s event will reaffirm the effectiveness of NATO’s collective defense.

The diplomat underscored Biden’s intention to express gratitude to the Polish authorities for their support during the Ukraine war. Brzezinski also commented on the Polish president and prime minister jointly visiting the Oval Office, despite political and ideological differences, which reflects the strength of American-Polish relations, grounded in shared strategic interests rather than political affiliations.
