A sitting of Poland’s lower house, the Sejm, on Wednesday was presented with information by Tusk and his cabinet about recent
flooding that wreaked havoc in southern and western Poland.
As part of the discussion, Tusk drew attention to the fact that a spate of false stories have appeared online.
As an example, he cited fake news about levees being blown up to deliberately flood towns.
He said these stories were intended to sow public panic and undermine trust in the state.
The prime minister also told the house that growth has recently been recorded in the activity of Russian-linked accounts.
Appealing for such disinformation not to be propagated, Tusk told the Sejm:
“There can be no place here for any foolish or brutal politics.”
