Online Polish news outlet RMF FM has reported that the killer of 21-year-old Sergeant Mateusz Sitek is originally from the Middle East and is most likely still in Belarus.

According to the news outlet, the man was identified after investigators analyzed footage of the attack and quizzed informants from migrant groups in Belarus.

They also interrogated migrants who had entered Poland to build up a full identity of the man who knifed Sgt. Sitek as a group of migrants attempted to force their way across the border in May.

Sitek was rushed to hospital but died just nine days later.



Citing unofficial sources, RMF FM said that the suspect may now be trying to get to Syria or another Middle Eastern country and added that Belarusian authorities have done little to help catch the killer.

Poland officially asked Minsk in early June for help in identifying and arresting the man but was ignored.

So far, there has been no official comment from the Polish government about the identification of the suspected killer.
