Duda met on Wednesday with Paula Narvaez, the Chair of the UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), Dennis Francis, the President of the General Assembly, and UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres.
In a press conference following the meetings, he mentioned that his discussions with Narvaez and Francis centered on
Poland’s development and its role in Europe, particularly within the Three Seas Initiative, as well as infrastructure development plans.
Regarding his conversation with Guterres, President Duda
highlighted the security issues, particularly the crises in Ukraine due to Russian aggression and in the Gaza Strip following Hamas’ attack on Israel.
He stressed the necessity of preventing Russia’s victory in the Ukrainian war, considering it a crucial obligation for countries to identify themselves as part of the free, democratic world.
He conveyed to Guterres the urgency of securing support for Ukraine in the upcoming months, emphasizing
Poland's significant role in supporting Ukraine and facilitating assistance from the free world.
Additionally, they discussed the crisis in the Gaza Strip,
the potential refugee crisis resulting from the conflict, and the case of a Polish citizen killed in the Israeli airstrike in the Gaza Strip.
President Duda also mentioned discussions on sustainable development in relation to the ongoing Sustainable Development Week in the USA and his participation in an upcoming debate.
Duda to meet former U.S. president
During a briefing, the Polish president was asked about his upcoming meeting with Donald Trump and whether he was concerned that it “might antagonize the Biden administration.”
“No, I am not concerned because
presidents meet with their colleagues, especially those who have previously held presidential offices in their countries. It is a normal practice, there is nothing extraordinary about it,” he responded.
“Presidents also meet with various politicians during their foreign visits. It is normal that if a country has good relations with another country, it wants those relations to be the best with representatives from various political backgrounds,” Duda pointed out.
