The meeting also occurred a month after Microsoft announced a $1-billion investment in a “digital transformation plan” for Poland to develop cloud computing services, central to which will be the opening of a new Microsoft datacenter region in the country.

Speaking about the meeting at a press conference on Wednesday, Tusk said the talks covered the “involvement of knowledge, technology and the need for political determination to prevent Russian influence, for example on electoral processes, whether in the United States, in Europe or in Poland, and more broadly about the use of... know-how, to prevent this Russian influence."

Tusk added that the security issues concerned were not limited to cyberspace but also covered aviation and public media.

He gave the example of a recent cyber-attack on the Polish Press Agency (PAP), which resulted in fake news being disseminated about a supposed military mobilization.

“[T]his hacking, this classic disinformation, is intended to destabilize the political situation in the country," Tusk said.

The prime minister also mentioned he had recently talked to Google’s management on similar themes that included “the conflict between the Western world and the political East.”
