A statement by Ukraine’s military general staff said the munitions depots were at Tikhoretsk in southern Krasnodar region and Oktyabrsky in the western region of Tver.

“The [Tikhoretsk] facility is in the top three largest munitions storages of the occupiers and is one of the key points in the Russian military logistical system,” the general staff wrote in a statement on Telegram, as quoted by the Reuters.

According to the statement, Ukraine was aware of the fact that a train carrying 2,000 tons of munitions, including from North Korea, had been on the Tikhoretsk arsenal at the time of the strike. Andrii Kovalenko, the head of Ukraine’s state-run Center for Countering Disinformation, claimed that North Korea-made KN23 missiles, artillery shells, and ammunition for Smerch rocket launchers were stored at the depot, reported Ukrainian newspaper Kyiv Independent.

Russian officials acknowledged the Ukrainian attack on the depot in Krasnodar region, saying it was carried out with drones, Reuters reported.

A Ukrainian security source, who spoke to Reuters on condition of anonymity, also said that drones were used in the attacks.

The source said Ukraine’s domestic SBU intelligence service hit the depot in Tikhoretsk in a joint operation with the Ukrainian military, while the SBU hit the target in Oktyabrsky on its own.

Krasnodar region governor Venyamin Kondratyev, writing on the Telegram messaging app, said officials had evacuated some residents while tackling the effects of the attack.

“What is important is that there is no longer any threat to residents,” he wrote. “But time is needed to carry out fully all the necessary checks of the territory.” Secret facility

Following an earlier attack on an arsenal in the Tver region which took place during the night of September 17 to 18, the M9 highway in Russia has been closed, Poland’s public radio broadcaster reported.

Speculation on Telegram suggests that Ukraine struck a secret facility, and if the missiles stored there were to detonate, they could cause destruction over an area of several kilometers.

Ammunition from North Korea was also reportedly stored there.

British intelligence assessed in its daily statement that a hit on this arsenal would complicate Russia's operations, particularly in the Kursk region.
